The Enola Gay was the first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb on the targeted city of Hiroshima, Japan. This attack was followed by a second atomic bomb which was dropped on the city of Nagasaki, by another B-29 named Bockscar. Both attacks caused unprecedented destruction and marked the end of World War II when Japan announced its surrender.
