The most famous British scout plane of World War I was the SE 5A. Most were employed on the western Front and the balance were used in training units in Great Britain. Designed and built by the Royal Aircraft Factory, 2,973 SE 5as had been delivered by October 1918. The final production totaled 5,205 aircraft.
